What remains after this process is the Heart of the Malt that can be lautered like a traditional brewer’s grind to deliver exceptional performance. This innovative product reveals true malt flavors without bitter, astringent qualities present with other malts, which is only possible through elimination of husk-based polyphenols. Synergy Select Pilsen Malt is a true European-style Pilsen Malt, which is rich in flavor, high in extract, and low in protein with moderate enzymes and FAN. MaltGems™ Pilsen Malt has a balanced taste with notes of bread, cracker, and honey, along with a remarkably clean finish.

    MaltGems™ comes pre-milled and dehusked.

        Makes good beer, but milled too fine for my system

        I bought 2 50# bags of this when it first came out, before I realized it was pre milled, I always mill my own. But managed to make it work with by modifying mash tun false bottom with screen. I recently bought another 20#s since I like the lagers I made with it before, but this time it was milled even finer and it clogged my rig, making for PITA brew day.Might be a good choice for BIAB brewers though, the flavor is very good.

        Very convenient way to increase grains for BIAB brewing

        Have used these Pilsen Maltgems twice and have been very happy with the ease of use (no milling required) and increase in amount of grains that can be used with BIAB for a 5 gallon batch.

        Does MaltGems need to be milled?

        MoreBeer!

        This grain does not need to be milled as it comes that way from the manufacturer. The way they make this grain is by milling their Synergy Select Pilsner Malt and removing a portion of the husks and flour. So what they send out the door is ready to go straight from the sack into the mash tun.
