How do you best clean it from wine residue?
I don't use them for wine. Only beer. Once a year I use bleach to clean and sanitize. Be VERY sure to rinse
I use PBW works great. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly.
Clean up is easy. First put about a quart of hot water in tank and swirl around to remove heavy residue and empty. Put another quart of hot water and add a tablespoon of un scented Oxy- clean available every where. Use a sponge and easily remove all residue. Rinse out with cold water. I store tank closed with about a cup of potassium metabisulfite solution in it. It will stay sterile till next use. Just empty out solution and refill when needed.. Thank you
Sorry but all I make is beer
neoprene jacket for the 60L where can it found?
Unfortunately at this time we do not carry or know where to source a Neoprene insulation jacket that will fit this fermenter.
How well does this work as a primary fermenter?
Love it. Makes quick work of 12 Gallon batches with lots of head room.
I have used the Spiedel 60L storage as a primary fermenter for 12 gallon batches of juice many times without a problem. The opening is not as large as the round 60L fermenter that Spiedel also makes (which I also have) but it's easy to clean and I love the "squat" shape that doesn't take up a lot of space. Hope this helps. Denny U.
Works great for small batches. I fermented about 6 gallons of pinot gris juice but you would probably be safe doing up to 10 gallons.
GREAT!! I have (2) 60l's for primaries and (4) 30l"s for secondaries. Done with glass!! Easy to clean! Easy to pitch and harvest yeast! During the winter we brew twice a week 11 gallon batches. We brew to fill and keep 30.kegs full till we put put our boats in the water in mid April. So we brew from the end of October to the first of April. So we brew right around 250 gallon. All in Speidel!! Love them and use them hard!!
Worked good for me. I have 2 so used one for primary and the the other to rack to
Fantastic. I have a pair and they work great. Reliable taps nice wide mouth for additions. That said it is plastic do I would suggest racking into glass for anything long term.
Why choose this over the FE720?
cause it looks cooler...
It depends on what you are doing?? The FE720 lets lots more air touch your wine than the FE730. So if you are going for long term storage the 730 is the way to go. The FE720 cleans up lots easier.
Saved a few dollars foot print is a little smaller and leaves a more narrow bed to collect all of the fallout leaving less surface area to come in contact with sediment. I also already had one of these and wanted to stick with what I had.
There are several reasons to choose this one. For one the lid is way WAY easier to install/remove. It's easier to clean the lid as well. It's a little more narrow so fits better on a shelf if you have several lined up. Some people prefer these for aging after primary fermentation.
I have both and prefer the screw on top of the rectanglur one. It is easier to get a good seal especially of you are going to pressure transfer.
Personal preference I believe. I prefer the barrels because they're easier for me to store. The plastic storage would be better if you are fermenting on shelves. Other than that I see very little difference. I hope this helps.
The more square one is the one I own.. after doing some research before buying I found the lid seals better and is less room for failure
