Lee's stirrer works great. Better than the whip it in my opinion. Bought one that got damaged in shipping and they quickly sent me another one no hassle. Great customer service thank you
I wanted something that could be used would both wide-mouth carboys and narrow glass one-gallon jugs. This is perfect, even fits in my supply box.
Sturdy and quick to degass my wine after failure to degass properly with wine whip. I still had co2 after 9 months of aging. This seems to do the trick. Now I am ready to reuse my carboys for this year's batch.
Durable and I just throw it into the dishwasher to clean and sanitize
Works as advertised. Simple to use in our wine barrels. Very satisfied.
Works great for mixing in back sweetner into my Ciders & Wines.
It does the job for sure! Just can’t hang it up...don’t forget to have your drill charged and ready hahahahaha
I have had this exact model for over five years, absolutely love it! Rugged, easy to clean/sanitize. Recommended.
For what I use it for, I use it for stirring/aerating my must and for de-gassing, it works well. It's easy to clean/sanitize. You can easily attach it any 3/8" drill and it's long enough to reach inside a 6 gallon carboy. Take care not to spin it on the sides of whatever vessel your using, as I heard from others, that it might break the plastiic paddles. If used correctly, I think you'll get the most out of this handy tool. I hope this info helps.
Effective in mixing wine, especially for malolactic or for blending. I am experiencing occasional problems with the mixing blades locking up which causes difficulty in removing the stirrer from the carboys.
This is best lees stirrer I have ever used. I was gifted the larger "Stainless Steel Lees Stirrer (For Drill)" and used that for several years, only on half barrels. I purchased this because it fit into our carboys of topping wine, and I'll never use the other stirrer again. There's nothing wrong with the larger one, but this one is safer, easier to clean, and works in all our carboys, our Cornelius Keg and our half barrels.
Works very well for stirring up the lees or mixing ingredients together prior to ferment. Fits in all my carboys.
This is a great tool, solid stainless steel rod! Just be careful at the end of primary fermentation, there’s a lot of co2 in solution, can you say Mentos experiment?
Degasing is important and not easy to do by hand. Using this tool in a cordless drill works great when degassing your wine in a carboy.
I use this for degassing mead during the earlier stages of fermentation. I don't know how much its effect is from degassing and how much is from a thorough mixing of the yeast into the must, but my fermentations have been 90% complete in very short times using this. (I have things set up to do this in an enclosed carboy, so it doesn't result in aeration of the must. If you set it up in a bucket, as is more common with mead, then it will also aerate the must, but I leery of doing that so far into the fermentation.)With mead (don't know about wine), just be sure to start slowly with a few starts and stops. Otherwise, the mead can foam up so much that it may go over the top of your container.
Previously I just used a bent hanger. This is a big improvement. Makes releasing CO2 a lot easier.
I was shaking my wine before I used this just to see the difference. Man that is some work to shake 6 gallons of liquid. Besides that, I still had gasses in it and it wasn't mixed very well. I popped this thing in the carboy and in a matter of seconds the wine was degassed (I overdid it the first time watch out for bubble over) and mixed. If you have a variable speed drill, which you NEED, start slow, otherwise you may end up with a big mess.
When it told me to degas for two minutes, I didn't realize it was going to be so much fun. I really enjoyed using this. got a little to anxious though. Turned the drill up to full power and ended up with a vortex volcano. Degas at low speed!! Then, once degassed it can be turned up for string.
This stirrer really works well, as it fits on the end of my cordless drill, and as it spins, make a small vortex in the 6.5 Gal Glass carboy, nicely integrating the fine lees.Washes off easily and well worth the $29.00. You do need to leave a small head space in the bottle to accommodate for the swirling vortex...which rises about 1".Philip Barone
What is the length?
Hi Kari - The length is 24".
Once attached to a drill and angled correctly can this be used on stacked barrels?
Not with the racks (7" 2 barrel) and cordless drill we use - I just tried it. We use both 60 and 30g barrels and there's not enough clearance to get the drill onto the stirrer inserted into the barrel.
I’ve never tried it but doubt that it would work. Possibly if you had a 90 degree drill motor
Bought this for wine making but I also make beer. Can this be used to do the whirlpool at the end of the boil? Will it stand up to the heat?
Don’t use this for the whirlpool after flameout when making beer. The plastic blades will deform into curves. I had to take my unit apart Heat the blades and bend them back into shape. Works great on cold/warm liquids.
The unit is made of stainless and thermo-plastic and should hold up to elevated temperatures of at least 250 deg. F. I think you're fine with this one.
