Inert Gas System for Variable Volume Tanks

    Description

    Protect your wine from oxidation!

If you store wine in a variable volume tank in an environment that is not perfectly temperature controlled and the temperature drops, the wine in the tank will contract. As the wine contracts it creates a vacuum and pulls air into the tank. Even in a temperature controlled environment sampling will pull in small amounts of air. The traditional airlocks used in variable volume lids allow air to enter. If air does not enter the tank through the airlock (say if you had a solid stopper in place of the airlock), the internal vacuum pulls on the entire lid, which often causes a gasket failure. The solution is to replace your airlock with our MoreWine Inert Gas Bleeder.

    What's Included
Our system comes with a tank lid connection, and diaphragm bleeder regulator. Not included is the stainless variable volume tank, high-pressure gas tank, regulator, or tubing to connect to a high-pressure regulator.

    How to Use
As you can see in the picture, the traditional white airlock (on Italian Tanks) or the black screw plastic screw fitting (on our Speidel tanks) is replaced with our white tank connection fitting.

The Diaphragm Bleeder Regulator allows for inert gas to be pulled through a one way valve on demand without putting actual pressure on the tank. If the temperature increase and the wine expands the excess pressure also vents out of this Bleeder Regulator.

If you plan to use Variable Volume tanks for long term storage we strongly recommend these systems as a safety guard against oxidation. Tips:

The correct pressure to set the tank regulator to for use with the WE399 is 2-5 psi. The bleeder valve that is part of this kit has an auto blow off at 10 psi, so having the regulator any higher than that will cause the bleeder valve to vent to the atmosphere and thus drain your gas tank.

Note: The inlet is noted with a molded text "CO2" next to the barb fitting.

How do you know if its working?

I'd been looking at buying this for probably a year and finally took the plunge. As the owner of 7 variable-capacity tanks, this is something that my small winery could benefit from. Got it installed and attached to my gas tank and then...well...how do you know if its working? I really hope it does what it says it is supposed to do, especially given the price tag, but how is a person to know whether its A) working, B) not working, C) leaking and letting in air??

I just bought one of these and I’m not getting any CO2 through the bleeder valve. I’m getting pressure to the bleeder but it is as if the valve is blocked. It is new is there something I need to do to enable it for 1st time use or is it broken? Any help much appreciated! I do have it connected to the port labeled CO2. Thanks!

I have a small argon tank and 4 stainless variable volume tanks from more wine. Will that be sufficient for all 4 tanks with the stainless steel "T"s?

        MoreBeer!

You should have no issue using one gas tank and a manifold to your 4 wine tanks. Remember to check on it every few days or once a week to make sure everything is stable.

Can you use the 6 way gas manifold (Item #D1815) with the diaphragm to support multiple tanks or will the built in check valve prevent off-gassing from the tank side?

        MoreBeer!

Check valves in D1815 are intended to be a one way direction. Gas goes in no beer or gas can come back. This would would probably affect the mechanism in WE399. However you could rig up a series of Co2 Tees without check-valves giving realtime equal pressure across all vessels.

Can one diaphragm support multiple tanks through a manifold / splitter?

        MoreBeer!

Yes the diaphragm bleeder can be used for multiple tanks.

What size hose does the diaphragm take?

        MoreBeer!

The diaphragm has 3/8" barbs. The tubing included in this kit (D1704) is 5/16" ID to ensure a tight fit.

        MoreBeer!

3/8 hose. I couldn't get mine to work properly so I scrapped the concept. Not happy with this product
