The Behmor raised my level of coffee experience. This drum roaster is worth more than what was paid. If you want beter coffee, start with green beans and a Behmor, you won't regret it.

I have been working with a model 1600 since the unit first came out but have been home roasting long before -- nearly 30 years now and I can tell you this unit is by far the best in it's class. You have to familiarize yourself with it's inner-workings to really get the most out of this machine. Start with semi-annual deep cleaning your unit with a Q-tips, a small hose type vacuum, tooth brush and "simplegreen" cleanser. Once you have gotten under the hood several times then you will build confidence in your knowledge of how she is put together. Then you can easily replace parts as needed. I just replaced a motor in 15 minutes. I believe that the United Lab (UL) guys got all over Behmor for not having better fire protection built in thus we got the auto shut-off safety feature, believe me that Behmor wasn't happy but it kept this roaster on the market. Chaff ignition in roasters is super common especially with dark roasts so Behmor doesn't go all the way to Vienna/ French roast without a hack. (You can pre-heat your roaster 3 minutes then unplug as well as pre-heating bean batch in a wok 7-8 minutes before quickly loading into your roaster and proceeding for darker roasts)PRO: Easy to work on and with regular maintenance will last a lifetime. Perfect beans every time. Priced to be accessible by most people who want to get into roasting. Also excellent for roasting peanuts and cocoa beans. CON': This unit does not have a infrared thermometer to measure the bean bed temperature so that roast profiles are repeatable, this unit is more intrinsic or roast by feel.

Buttons on control panel on my 1600 were failing and the motor has made noise for years in colder weather. Decided a full upgrade was probably worth it. I was right. Using larger quantities with faster results, with no warm up. Seems like everything from the motor to the element to the control panel have been improved greatly. Enjoy.

Really love that it's not "smart". We like the many options that it has. Our last bean roaster was an Alpenroast. That was very good but, this one is better. Clean up is easier with this one too.

I like the faster drum speed. The door has double glass and is not sealed between the two. This allows chaff and oils to get between the two pieces of glass. It won’t be long and I won’t be able to judge the darkness of my roasts like I need to. I like the single glass on my old unit better.....I can clean it inside and out. I love the alarm at shutdown but it’s 2 minutes later than my old unit and that’s right at first crack on some coffees I roast. I always roast in manual mode. The drum door doesn’t open nicely like my old one.....have to force it past 90 degrees.Heat is good...haven’t had to add time to any roasts. Pretty happy but the door will have to be changed. It’s about a hundred bucks more than my first one so I’m a little bummed about the door.....HELP! If Behmor has an old door and it will fit, I want one.

Roaster was easy to set up and does pretty much what it describes. Less smoke than other roasters I've tried but first few roasts set off the smoke alarm. Moved it closer to hood and now alarm free. Does a fair job keeping the chaff captured in lower tray. Very consistent roasts and I like that it has presets for 1/4, 1/2, and 1-lb quantities.

I’m very happy with my Behmor 2000AB, which I’ve had a bit over a year. My only concern seems to have been addressed by the addition of the 2000AB-plus’s automatic shutoff warning bell. Mine has no warning bell but a simple kitchen timer works just as well. I prefer light roast coffee and the Behmor’s automatic roasting profiles do this well—manual mode works even better. The instructions were a bit confusing and could be made clearer and more concise. But helpful YouTube videos assisted my understanding. Once you get the hang of it, roasting is simple and reliable. Roasting 1/2 pound seems to work best but 1-pound batches also roast well and match the automatic profiles perfectly. Mine sits on my kitchen counter next to my cooktop, where the fan takes care of the minimal smoke that occurs mostly during cooling. Roasting coffee smells different than roasted coffee, but I like both aromas. Roasting produces a bit of resin stain on my quartz countertop, which cleans up well with denatured alcohol. I hesitated a bit before purchasing my Behmor, telling myself that a coffee roaster was a luxury—no more! I love saving money buying green coffee beans in bulk and sampling single-origins from around the world. And I love drinking the freshest, tastiest coffee ever!

Works great with the pre sets to get a very good roast. Allows for plenty of manual adjustment for experimentation, if you’re into that (I am). Large capacity. Consistent results. Works great indoors. Lots of support and forums online for this machine.

As the title suggests, this roaster has a lot going for it. It's very well built, and has a solid reliable feel to it. The manual is pretty helpful and the controls, once you learn them, are pretty good. I also love the fact that you can roast up to 16 oz. at a time.What I don't love. First, the auto-shutoff feature sounds great on paper. "It's a safety feature". Yeah, until you miss the timer and screw up an whole batch. This requires you to helicopter the dang thing the whole time. This 'feature' cost it an entire star.I also don't yet agree with the roast time suggestions and settings. I had to roast a batch THREE times to get the color I wanted and felt like I was guessing the whole time (and no, I don't like them burnt, but right around 1st crack). I even keep a detailed roast log and the last few entries have some four letter words in them. This is part of just figuring it out I suppose, but if you follow the instructions to the letter, the beans are not even close to being roasted.The internal light is a good idea, but it shines off the roasting drum so much you can't really see the bean color, so it's not helpful in monitoring the roast.I'm only on the first few batches so my opinion may change over time, but I doubt I'll ever like the auto-shutoff off feature.
