About the Milwaukee MW103 PRO+ pH Meter
The MW103 is the updated version of Milwaukee's MW102. It has the same ±0.02 pH accuracy and automatic two-point calibration, and it comes with Milwaukee's SE220 pH electrode and a separate temperature probe for automatic temperature compensation. It adds two things. The first is a mV mode for checking the health of the probe. When readings start drifting, it's hard to tell whether the probe needs a cleaning or needs replacing. If the mV readings come in high or low, soak the probe in cleaning solution for about 20 minutes, then in storage solution for a few hours. If the numbers don't improve, it's time for a new probe. The second came from customer feedback: the MW102 only reads Celsius, and the MW103 switches between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
On brew day, pull a mash sample and cool it to room temperature before you read it. ATC corrects for how temperature affects the probe, but a hot mash sample reads lower than the same sample at room temp, and the 5.2 to 5.6 target is a room-temperature number. Hot samples also wear out the glass bulb faster. Between brew days, keep the probe cap filled with storage solution. Don't store it in distilled or RO water, which damages the probe.

About the pH 7.01 & 4.01 Calibration Solutions Free
These are lab grade buffers certified to ±0.01 pH, so there's no mixing your own and hoping it's right. The MW103 comes with 20 mL starter bottles of each. These are the full 230 mL bottles for the calibrations after that. Every pH probe loses sensitivity as it ages, which is why Milwaukee recommends calibrating at least once a month, any time a reading looks off, and after you clean the probe or it's been sitting in storage for a while. Pour each buffer into its own clean container and keep the temperature probe in the buffer with the pH probe while you calibrate. Throw out the used buffer when you're done. Don't pour it back into the bottle.
